Hi Gamers,
Lately I have had the urge to play a full fledged soccer game. The past several years, Beautiful Game has been THE game I have been playing. However, I wanted more than just dice rolls and chance probabilities. I also wanted to see guys like David O'Leary and others who didn't score but played an important role in the game. So, I had a choice: Fastcard Soccer, Soccer Replay or my own creation, Goal Pro Soccer. I chose Goal!

So I pulled the game out of the closet.....dusted off the charts, read the rules again just to refresh things and choose 1963 Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, a season that was rated for Soccer Replay but was converted easily to Goal Pro Soccer.

Game didn't take too long for me to remember, in fact I realized how good the game was! Game took me less than 20 minutes to play and had it's share of action! Liverpool took Forest 2-0 on goals from Ian St. John (32) and Roger Hunt (83). I liked the stats that resulted from the game: Shots: Liverpool 8; Nottingham Forest 5. Saves: Liverpool 1; Forest 3; Fouls: Liverpool 8; Forest 6. Corners: Liverpool 2; Forest 0. In the 44th minute, some pushing and shoving from Moran of Liverpool and Whitefoot of Forest resulted in Yellow Cards for both men.

When I invented the game, I use to play not one but two or three games in a row because it was fun, exciting and easy to play. I got good stats from the games. Only thing that disappointed me was there were more than enough PK's so I changed a few things as time went on. I was also pleased by the following that the game had from other gamers, as you can tell by the uploads as the years went on. Then Lambourne Games released The Beautiful Game and all the attention, from me, went from my own game to BG. I was happy to bring this out of mothballs and to play again. Kudos from Brien Martin who took the game, cleaned things up a bit, added some color and helped make the game as good as it was.

I hope there are some that are still playing the game. I am going to be constructing more seasons now that I have purchased several Rothman Football handbooks and News of the World Football handbooks. These publications give me stats, lineups and appearance rosters for the teams, which was lacking for me in the past. I thought about just doing the scorers- similar to BG but I felt the game would not be the same. I love the way the action flows from end to end. Not to be tooting my own horn, I am sure there are a lot of great soccer games out there besides GOAL!

Chime in if you are still playing and if you haven't, and you have read this post, feel free to download the game and print out one season and play a few games......have fun!

Played a couple more games last night and today. More fun. Today's game pits 1988-89 Arsenal at Liverpool. Game took a little longer due to four yellow cards, two corner kicks that wound up as own goals credited to Arsenal's Dixon (Both!) and a goal by Ablett in the 61st minute. All Liverpool as they down the Gunners 3-0. 16 total fouls, shots favor the Reds 11-4, Arsenal keeper Lukic was kept busy saving 7. Five corner kicks to none in favor of Liverpool. Fans in the Kop went home happy!

I am also experimenting with a couple new charts- Substitution effects chart, and completely new direct free kick chart and a shot chart for corner kicks. These charts will give a little more realism to the game.

I will post the charts as soon as I am comfortable with them.
