I have begun playing TBG again (and love it) and I have been getting into football (see, I am learning) as well.
I don't at all want to abandon TBG - but I am thinking I might want to try a game I can play along with TBG that will give me more of a hands-on/direct impact on the game decisions as I work through a season replay.
This way, I can pick a team and play the more hands-on/direct impact game with them, and play TBG for the other matches in the league.
I have read the posts on this forum for help (as always) and checked out Owzatgames/Lambourne games.
I am leaning toward Full Time over Soccer Replay, because Full Time seems to be more of a total (yet compressed) gameplay experience with a few decisions involved.
Has anyone had any experience with Full Time?
I have read the posts here about Soccer Replay, can anyone add their opinions on that game?
And - can anyone compare the two games?
Thanks for the help -

I own and play, TBG & Full Time. Full Time is the perfect game to expand from TBG without needing 3 hours to play or an expansive knowledge of tactics. Also, there is an addon you can download that allows you to play any team from any league in any level.
Soccer Replay lost the head to head battle with Full Time for my preference. Played it a few times but always enjoyed Full Time.
Other possible games to consider are, Final Score & Net Results.
Final Score is similar to Full Time(so similar you can interchange the cards between games). It uses FACs instead of dice and is a smidgen quicker to play. The one drawback is the lack of available teams.
Net Results is by far the most sophisticated & most realistic of the bunch. Individual cards for EVERY player and great accuracy. Passing & shooting accuracy come into play as well as defensive ability & aggression. Net results takes a good chunk of time to play and doesn't have the number of leagues Full Time has.
I use Goal Chance (I recommend getting this with Full Time, its way better than TBG) for quick plays, Full Time for more detailed games, and Net Results when I want a play by play game.
I suggest getting Full Time with Goal Chance and when you become more of a football expert, go for Net Results.

Jj,
Thanks for that great and comprehensive reply.
I wil certainly take the dive into Full Time.
You said Goal Chance is better than TBG?
I am in love with TBG...
Can you tell me why you think Goal Chance is better?
I am certainly open to giving it a go.
(Did Terry Goodchild design Goal Chance?)
You can order Goal Chance with Full Time from Owzatgames, right?
Again, thanks a lot for the help -

There is an option on the Owzat website to include Goal Chance with the Full Time purchase. Its like 6 pounds more but well worth it.
Goal Chance is a less cumbersome quick play. You compare team ratings to obtain a value for each team. A roll of the dice determines if an attack(goal chance) has developed. An additional roll determīnes what type, 2 on 1, long shot, cross into the box etc, who shot, & if it was successful. It has charts instead of cards for the description of play.
Terry did design Goal Chance.
Look for the Unknown Roster Add On on this website. It will give you a peek into Full Time and Goal Chance game play.

Jj,
I took the plunge with Full Time today.
I didn't order the combo that included Goal Chance.
I completely believe you when you say both games are great and worth the $$$, but I just couldn't break up with TBG - I still want t use it as my quick-play football game.
I know if I ordered Goal Chance, TBG would get put to the side - and I just couldn't bear that.
Thanks for your help with all of this.
I will post when I get a decent match or two of Full Time under my belt.

I have Full Time and enjoy it.
Play time for me is about 20 minutes after setup - and setup is extremely fast, it only takes a little time if you are replaying a league and need to check previous match results for injuries, red/yellow card suspensions, etc. which would change a side's lineup from the starting 11 listed on the card.
The game basically plays itself, but there are a few tactical decisions to make. There aren't too many "official" seasons, leagues and tournaments available, but as mentioned, the "add-on" file makes it easy to rate leagues.
It's a little harder to rate international competitions (World Cup and Euro for example) since the sample size of matches played is small and teams don't play a balanced schedule, but once you've played the game a bit, it's not too hard to subjectively rate the tournaments - of course one person's ratings for Euro 2008 would not correspond to anyone else's but they're good enough for me to enjoy a replay.
To speed up play, I'd recommend making a photocopy of one side of the attack/defence chart, where one side has tables for the "attack zone" and the other side for action in the penalty area - since without two copies of this chart you'll be continually flipping it.
If I had any criticism of this game it would be that the team ratings are not really affected by who is on the pitch. For example, if one were to rate the 1986 World Cup, an injury to Maradonna would probably not diminish Argentina's ratings. Even fielding an entire "B" side (common in the 3rd game of the group stage in international tournaments where a side has already qualified) does not really change a team's strength.
But Full Time is essentially a "team" game, with individual players' shooting ratings provided more for flavour than anything else - with the advantage that one needs very little statistical information to rate a league. |

Everhat,
Great, I'm positive you'll be pleased.
I use both TBG & GC depending on the situation. If I'm in bed, I can play GC since there are less parts and therefore, less space needed. I like to play out a full weekend of matches over a Saturday. Ill use FT and TBG during the day & GC at night to finish up. I have actually played GC while stuck in traffic. Stupid yes but shows that us Americans can be idiotic about our futbol love. |

BTJ,
Thanks for the info.
I'm glad the game provides a few tactical decisions but still plays quickly.
I will take your advice and photocopy the attack/defense chart.
Each time I play one of these dice/chart games I find I begin to have a real affinity for the charts used. The experience is so much different than when playing a computer or video game.
I can understand what you are saying about injuries not really affecting the "team" rating(s).
I usually play TBG on Level 2. TBG Level 3 adds in yellow/red cards and injuries - I'll have to start playing that way to keep my TBG quick-play consistent with my Full Time non-quick-play. |

Jj,
HA!
I think that's great playing GC in traffic. Much better than a Nintendo DS/PSP or Angry Birds on a cell phone....
If I had a place to leave up my TBG card stacks and chart notebook, I would leave it up for weeks at a time and just reshuffle and shuffle in new cards before going at it for a few matches.
I was planning to try and get through an entire week of the EPL season during a weekend. It's goos to know that can be done - |
