THEY mean, add an extra attempt/reception (and corresponding yardage) to the stats of the player for each touchdown. Add an extra Attempt / reception for key play (but no yardage).

Phil or Jeff,
I am replaying the 2008 NFL season with MFB and had a question about the Bengals Pass Defense Yardage Adjustment. They are rated at -3 and this has produced some very low passing yardage totals for their opponents. I haven't tried to deconstruct your ratings and I'm not asking you to explain the rating method, but the Bengals were in the middle of the pack in every passing category in '08 and at the current rate they'll finish first in pass defense in my replay. So I was wondering if this rating is correct or possibly just a typo?

Mike,
It must be a typo. The Bengals are rated (+0) for pass defense adjustment in 2008.

Phil,
Thanks, that was my guess, I just wanted to be sure. After they kept a couple of teams under 100 yds. passing I held off from filling out any more of their score sheets.

Phil,
After comparing all the teams defensive ratings to their real NFL stats from 2008, I am wondering if there are more typos. Using Baltimore's run defense as an example: 11/32 (+0), they are more likely than any other team to give the +1 modifier to rushing attempts when in reality they had the least rushes attempted against them. And with the (+0) yardage adjustment compared against their 16 opponents, for the season they will give up on average 112 yds. rushing while in reality they they gave up only 80 yds. per game. I would think that the attempts modifier would lean towards producing less carries and the yardage adjustment would probably be (-2). Maybe I have a set where the defensive ratings got mixed up somehow, so I was wondering if you or Jeff could e-mail me the correct ratings for the 2008 season so I could compare them to the team sheets that I have.
Thanks,
Mike S. |
