  Advertising is Gone!
The advertising that appeared on the site the past week is history. At first, I thought it was a good idea to help defray the monthly server bill. However, I didn't realize that the advertising company was going to use tons of annoying pop-unders and the like. I apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced.

I guess the old addage of if it looks too good to be true it probably is applies here!

  Back in the Saddle Again....Litterally!
I just received wonderful news from Gary Stishan:

I am proud to announce that The Thoroughbred Racing Game is BACK in print.

I have secured the rights and control from the original game designer, Dr. Victor Hasselblad to bring back this fine horse racing game as it was created in the late 1970s. The game will start shipping 8/25/2003.

The game includes:

  • Box to store the game components with the original picture on the box.
  • 2 same color dice.
  • Rule book.
  • All-Time Great Horses Set
  • 50 horse cards printed on 100 pound card stock in the same design of the originals.
  • 9 cards per sheet.
  • A listing of the horses and jockeys (with ratings) included in the set.
  • 10 Famous race tracks from around the USA.
  • 5 of the race tracks include both the dirt and turf courses for a total of 15 courses.
  • Included is an second set because the race tracks are used to keep of the race.
  • Also included are a couple sheets of trace paper to track the race instead of using the actual race tracks.

The price of the game is $19.95 plus $5.00 shipping and handling.

Many horse sets were created for the game by Dr. Hasselblad. I hope to release these as time allows.

The first season set to be released is the 1983 season. This is the last set Dr. Hasselblad created for the game. It has 50 horse cards and sells for $6.00. The 1983 season set can be purchased with the game to save on shipping cost.

I also hope to also create new season sets for the game too. I will probably start with the 2002 season and go from there.

For those that have the original game and would like either the All-Time Greats or 1983 season sets the price is $6.00 plus $1.00 shipping and handling per set.

Extra Race Track sets (15 courses, 2 copies) at $4.00 plus $1.00 shipping and handling per set.

Please e-mail me at <A href=""</A> to place an order or to ask any questions.

Thank you,

Gary Stishan

  TVG Horse Racing Added
I have added Jeff Drought's new horse racing game to the download section. Here is an overview directly from Jeff:

This is two games in one. Whether you play with Apba horse cards you own or the ratings included with this game, their use is a little different than with Saddle Racing. Only the Ratings (Turf, Good, Slow, Muddy & Sloppy) are utilized. Initially, the game is sets up the same. But instead of 11-66
grids, the plus/minus ratings which were converted for setting up odds are used instead. These normalized ratings are then converted to what I call a default movement rating. Other modifications to the horse rating include the usual track conditions, jockey ratings and a new variative called Pre-Race Training.

Once the scoresheet is filled out, a race is carried out with the use of three charts. Gate Sequence, Mid-Furlong Sequence and the Stretch Sequence. It should be pretty straightforward, but to clarify, the Gate Sequence would be the first Furlong while the Stretch Sequence most often times will be the last. Everything in between is run from the Mid-Furlong Chart. I say most often times because there may be races when the Stretch Sequence is used twice.

The second game included is what I call the TVG version. If you watch the TVG Racing channel, you can run races either before or post race, using the odds. A chart converts the odds to the horse rating. No other modifications are used (not track, jockey or pre-race training). Everything is built into the odds. Jockey ratings are used during the race however. If you don't get the race channel, you can still use this version of the
game by printing out results found on the internet. Or if you have a daily racing form, you could use the morning odds.

Differences with this game and Apba nclude the fact that decimals are not used. Diagonal movement is allowed though within restrictions. Jockey ratings (0-4) are at times added to Default Movement (DM) ratings while at other times, used to determine challenges. Challenges if won, allow a trailing horse to pass "thru" rather than move around a horse ahead. The
space in front of the lead horse would have to be open. Inward moves as with straight moves cost 1 movement point while outward moves cost 2.

Included is a track which can be printed in one sheet or in nine sheets which you would then cut and mount. Finally, horse icons are included and if printed per instructions, will fit exactly the spaces on the track. Furlong distances are identical to Apba's (8 spaces per furlong).

That should be it. Enjoy either version and send/post any questions.

Thank you,
jeff Drought
