Happy Monday!  And welcome to another edition of Tabletop Sports Weekly.

I apologize for the delay in this issue, but the snow storm we had over the weekend has made my internet connection touch and go.

We had several members re-join the list this week.  And while we aren't fully back to where we were subscription wise, we are much closer.  We have another "light" turnout this week.  Hopefully, we'll see more interaction in the coming weeks.

My week was spent playing NASCAR grandstand, Gabriel's All-Star Boxing, Football Fever #2, Replay Baseball and Second Season Football.  I'll have reviews of Gabriel's Boxing and Football Fever on the website in a few days.

NASCAR Grandstand, a game you can download for free, is a fantastic representation of auto racing.  I've had an absolute blast playing this game over the past week.  One of the things that impresses me most is that although there are a lot of dice rolls, the suspense and excitement doesn't decrease.  All told, it took me 2 hours to qualify and run a full field at Daytona.  But, like I said, I never lost interest, and each dice roll for the leaders became more and more suspensefull.  If you've been looking for a good racing game, I highly recocmend this one.

I'm going to close there, since this is so late.  Let's see if we can get some submissions for next week's issue!

Brian Yonushonis is looking for formulas for rating teams in Avalon Hill's Pennant Race.  This is not the SI version, but the quick play game.  If you have the formulas, Brian would love to hear from you.  You can contact him here: Brian_Yonushonis@adp.com

Jeff,
I'll bite on one of your topics from last week: #1. "What is the best
designed game you have ever played on the tabletop? What makes the design so
unique?"

I'll answer from the perspective of solitaire games only.  Best Solitaire
Game Design: Face-to-the-Mat.  It is fast-paced, intuitive, and very
flexible.  I'm not a fan of pro-wrestling, but FTTM is fun and easy right
out of the box. A typical one-on-one match takes only minutes to complete.
If you care to add house rules you can do so without rewriting charts and
cards, etc...  The highlight reels booklet provides extra detail and drives
the campaign aspect of the game.  I look at it this way: If you spend an
hour playing this game, you will feel like you've gotten good entertainment
"value" for your time.  Perhaps the most challenging aspect for many players
may be deciding on your federation roster and fleshing-out the wrestlers.

My other favorite game designs are Replay Baseball (current version), Second
Season Football, and dare I say, Legends of Boxing.  No, I'm not trying to
put myself on a plateau with Keith and Pete. They are the pros...
Seriously, all three games are designed with the solitaire player in-mind
and I believe that all three are relatively accurate models of their
respective sports.
