Picked up this set over the weekend. First two games were with my favorite test-drive team, the '72 Packers. Trounced by the '76 Raiders, 27-6, beat the '75 Oilers 13-10. Edge-of-the-seat finish to that one. Houston blocked a Ron Widby punt with just under two minutes remaining, recovered at the GB 44. As they tried to get into field goal range, Jim Hill picked off a short Dan Pastorini pass. The Packers looked like they might have to settle for a tie, but MacArthur Lane took a flare pass from Scott Hunter and went 35 yards. From the 26, 15 seconds left, rookie Chester Marcol kicked a game-winning 43-yard field goal.
Interesting that the tandem of John Brockington/MacArthur Lane were held in check by both defenses. For the two games, Brockington had 36 carries for 88 yards, a 2.4 avg. (3.7 actual). Lane had 24 carries for 86 yards, 3.6 avg. (4.6 actual).
I might do a tournament or set up a league with this set. A nice mix of teams, from the undefeated '72 Dolphins and the 13-1 '76 Raiders, to the '78 Jets and '79 Saints, both 8-8.
