I've calculated ratings for the top 125 money winners of the 2003 PGA Tour. All the great players of today are there: Tiger, Vijay, Ernie, etc. Miraculous major winners Ben Curtis and Shaun Micheel are represented. A look at their ratings gives you an idea how unlikely their wins were.
Slump? What slump! For the season, Tiger played just about as well as he has for the last couple years. The difference? He didn't win a major. I think this is just a matter of the luck balancing out over time. Expect Tiger to start accumulating a bunch of 2nd and 3rd place finishes, along with his share of wins, in the next few years.
What in the world happened to Lefty? Some say he's fallen in love with crushing his driver at the expense of other parts of his game.
Great breakthrough majors for Mike Weir and Jim Furyk. All in all, another record-breaking year on the PGA Tour.
