I used to own this as a kid, and never really tried it with the team and player ratings. I always enjoyed it without them. But I just recently ordered one on eBay, and would like to get into playing it with the rated teams. Does anyone know of a good system for rating teams myself?
Also, anyone else out there with fond memories of this game?

I have played a lot of football games and this RGI game is my favourite by far.
One of the reason is I can rate players/teams by myself.
Other reason is you can rate using very different way: you can rate teams offense&defense, you can rate team by plays and you can rate players.
Although rating single players is called the advanced way, rating plays is the more accurate.
That way becomes even more accurate in combination with a team customized playbook (you may modify the solitaire playbook with the team more used plays)
For instance, rating the 83 raiders you know you will have to add a long pass on 3rd&1 but you know most of the team plays will be inside runs and short passes to Christensen &Allen.
About rating I usually use ratings from 6 to 9 checking yearly statistics and common sense.
In order to rate defenses I usually rate them against runs, short passes and long passes.
