Miami Held a 13-0 Halftime Lead Courtesy Of Two Garo Yepremian Field Goals Of 25 & 33 Yards And Scored Their First TD Right Before Halftime On a Bob Griese To Nat Moore 15 Yard Strike. The Two Teams Played a Scoreless Third Quarter. Both Teams Would Find The Endzone In The Final Frame As Miami Would Build a 20-0 Lead On a Norm Buliach 1 Yard TD Run & Buffalo Would Finish Out The Scoring On Their Only Points Of The Afternoon When Jim Braxton Ran One Over From 5 Yards Out. The Juice O.J.Simpson Had His Way With The Miami Defense Finishing With 132 Yards On 19 Carries. The Buffalo Defense Sacked Bob Griese 4 Times In The Game & Miami Would Get To Joe Ferguson Twice.

New England Looked Like They Had Control Of The Game Untill They Committed Three Fumbles In a Row. First Don Calhoun Fumbled, Then On Their Next Possession It Was Darryl Stingley Who Fumbled After Catching a 20 Yard Pass, And On The Following Possession It Was Raymond Clayborn's Turn When He Fumbled Away a Kickoff Return. The Chiefs Would Turn The Miscues Into 14 Points.

The New York Giants Opened Up The 1977 NFL Season By Squeaking Out a 10-7 Victory Over The Washington Redskins In East Rutherford. The Game Was Evenly Played With Both Teams Seemly Having First Game Jitters As Numerous Mistakes Were Made Throughout The Game. The Game Winner Came On a Jerry Goldsteyn 22 Yard TD Pass To Jim Robinson Late In The Fourth Quarter. Other Than The TD Pass Goldsteyn Did Not Have a Good Game Otherwise. He Threw 3 Interceptions & Was Sacked Twice By The Redskins Defense But Did Just Enough To Get The Giants The Win. Washington QB Billy Kilmer Did Not Fare Well Either. He Was Sacked Twice As Well & Was Unable To Crack The Giants Defense For a Passing TD. These Division Rivals Combined For a Total Of 125 Penalty Minutes.

New Orleans Had Taken The Early 7-0 Lead On a Chuck Muncie 9 Yard TD Catch From Archie Manning. The Score Stayed That Way Untill Late In The Fourth Quarter When Barty Smith Took a Seven Yard Pass From Lynn Dickey Into The Endzone To Knot The Score At 7-7. New Orleans Won The OT Toss But Their Drive Stalled After Archie Manning Was Sacked By Bob Barber On a 3rd & 10. Lynn Dickey Led The Packers Down The Field To The Game Winning Field Goal With Tight End Rick McGeorge Being His Main Target On The Drive. The Chicago Bears Used a Late Walter Payton 3rd Quarter TD Run & Then Hung On For a 13-6 Opening Day Victory Over Division Rival The Detroit Lions In The Windy City. This Was a Real Black & Blue Division War From Start To Finish As The Two Teams Combined For 135 Penalty Minutes. The Game Featured Numerous After The Whistle Pushing And Shoving Incidents Throughout. The Bears Led 7-0 Going Into Halftime On Walter Payton's First Td Of The Game a 2 Yard Run Late In The Second Quarter. The Game Stayed That Way Untill Payton's Second Score To Put Chicago Up 13-0. Bob Thomas Missed The Extra Point. Detroit Would Finally Put Some Points On The Board On a Horace King 7 Yard Td Run But It Would Be To Little To Late. The Bears Defense Recorded 6 Sacks On Lions QB Greg Landry. Besides The Two Scores Payton Rushed For 106 Yards On 23 Carries.
